Sexual health update

On 19 November 2020, Dr Clare Heal (Professor – Department of General Practice and Rural Medicine, James Cook University School of Medicine) in association with Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM), presented the last of the Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) SIT education webinars in a series focusing on sexual and reproductive health.

The Sexual Health Update for General Practitioners focused on developing a sustainable HIV, viral hepatitis, and sexual health workforce.

Outcomes of the sessions included:

  • confidence in discussing sexual health
  • importance of screening/testing for STIs
  • key role of contact tracing in managing STIs
  • diagnosis and management of gonorrhoea and syphilis.
