Palliative Care Health Needs Assessment
The NQPHN Palliative Care Health Needs Assessment outlines current and emerging needs across our region.
Developed as part of the Australian Government’s Greater Choices for At Home Palliative Care program, the report brings together data analysis and stakeholder insights to inform planning through to 30 June 2029.
It identifies priority areas to strengthen workforce capacity, improve access –particularly in regional and remote areas – and support a more connected, responsive palliative care system.
The assessment highlights increasing demand for palliative care, particularly among older people and those with cancer, alongside significant workforce and service coordination challenges.
Findings from data analysis, surveys, and provider interviews have informed six priority areas and a set of regional needs that will guide future planning and collaboration across primary care, hospitals, aged care, specialist palliative care, and community services – supporting delivery of the right care, at the right time, in the right place.
