Veteran care made easier: Major DVA reforms now in effect

Supporting veterans just got simpler.

From 1 July 2026, significant reforms to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) have streamlined the way veterans access compensation, rehabilitation, and support services. The changes bring all new claims under a single legislative framework, making the system easier for veterans, their families, and healthcare providers to navigate.

For general practices, this is a timely opportunity to refresh your knowledge of DVA services and resources. DVA offers a range of practical tools to support care for veteran patients, including provider quick guides, mental health resources, Veterans’ Health Check information, and updated fee schedules.

Practice tip: Consider identifying veteran patients who may benefit from a Veterans’ Health Check or additional DVA-funded support services.
