Two-day clinical skills workshop

The theoretical foundation and the practical, hands-on skills required for safe, effective wound debridement through interactive learning, case studies and supervised CSWD sessions.

Theory and Clinical Foundation (Day 1)

8.30am – 4.30pm

  • Scope of practice and responsibilities
  • Identify viable vs non-viable tissue
  • Comprehensive client assessment
  • Contraindications and informed consent
  • Pain control before, during, and after
  • Tissue types: fat, tendon, muscle, bone
  • When to refer or seek specialist input
  • Respond to adverse events and bleeding
  • Build debridement into the care plan
  • Post-debridement dressings
  • Compare debridement methods

 

Practical Skills and Simulation (Day 2)

9am – 4.30pm

  • Select and use correct equipment safely
  • Set up and maintain a sterile field
  • Clinical/surgical skills in CSWD sessions
  • Quizzes, activities and case studies
