Disaster management workshop (Ayr)

Continuity of care in a time of crisis

Disaster events affecting northern Queensland are becoming more complex, more concurrent, and increasingly difficult to predict.

The purpose of this workshop is to help primary healthcare stakeholders (GPs, RACHs, and pharmacies) build upon their existing disaster management expertise and further strengthen their understanding so as to ensure continuity of care remains when an event occurs.

Learning outcomes

  • Recognise local disaster management arrangements and escalation pathways (DDMG/LDMG).
  • Understand practical operational risks to service continuity across primary healthcare stakeholders.
  • Identify key dependencies between health providers, Hospital and Health Services (HHSs), utilities, telecommunications, and transport.
  • Participate in a practical Disaster Exercise to test assumptions on power, communications, fuel, water, and medication supply.
  • Develop actionable steps to strengthen continuity of care locally following the workshop.
