IWD 2026 | Women in Health: Celebrating Our Workforce

International Women's Day edition

IWD 2026 Workforce

— Northern Queensland Workforce

NQPHN is proud to present our Women in Health Spotlight as part of our International Women’s Day celebrations across this week. This series recognises the women working across health professions and within NQPHN, and the vital contributions they make to the health and wellbeing of communities across northern Queensland. It also acknowledges the leadership shown by women at all levels, including those in roles that may not always be visible or widely recognised.

Below, you will find interviews with workforce professionals who share their experiences, insights, and the impact of their work.

Practice Manager
📍Clements Medical – Magnetic Island Practice

“Flexible working, mental health support, and a positive team culture are key to supporting our staff and maintaining wellbeing.”

How does your role support the health and wellbeing of communities across Northern Queensland?

My role is to ensure that patients have access to consistent, high quality healthcare. I oversee the smooth day to day operations of the practice. This includes managing the appointment scheduling, coordinating patient care, and ensuring that the staff are adequately trained and supported to provide excellent care. I work to help reduce barriers to healthcare for residents of Magnetic Island and the surrounding areas.

What does International Women’s Day mean to you in your work or everyday life?

International Women’s Day is a time to recognise and celebrate the women that I am surrounded by and work alongside, who are making a profound impact in the healthcare sector, including our doctors, nurses, receptionists, and other team members who all contribute to the health and care of the Magnetic Island community.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme highlights progress and action. What does that look like in your role or workplace?

I work within a team that has successfully implemented policies and initiatives aimed at supporting the work life balance of our female staff members, which is particularly important in our island setting, where stress and burnout can be more prevalent. We offer flexible working hours, provide mental health support, and organise team building activities to help maintain morale and foster a positive, supportive work environment for all.

How do you prioritise your own health and wellbeing, and why do you think this is important for women working in health and community services?

I schedule time for myself, whether it’s some quiet reading, or taking part in my favourite pass time of furniture restyling. I’ve found that taking time to step away from work helps me recharge.

What message or encouragement would you like to share with other women this International Women’s Day?

On this International Women’s Day, I’d encourage every woman to celebrate her own strength, resilience, and the unique contributions she brings to the world. We often wear so many hats, whether it’s as a daughter, sister, friend or leader and sometimes it’s easy to forget that the work we do, the care we give, and the challenges we overcome matter more than we realise.
