Educational resources for frontline primary care staff

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) recently partnered with Larter Consulting to host education sessions for frontline primary care staff across the Mackay, Townsville, and Cairns regions.

The education sessions, led by experienced healthcare professionals, investigated aggressive and challenging behaviours in primary care, and staff burnout and self-care.

Registered Nurse and General Practice Manager Jennifer Lang’s presentation ‘Identifying aggressive and challenging behaviours’ explored factors that may trigger these behaviours and how to manage these using effective communication skills. Jennifer also shared her strategies to create a safe environment for staff, patients, and the community.

Medical Educator Nicole Evans’ presentation on ‘Increasing awareness of the causes of burnout’ focused on recognising the signs and symptoms of burnout and identified strategies that reduce burnout in primary care teams. Nicole’s sessions provided opportunities for participants to share their feedback and experiences with burnout and included mindfulness strategies for staff to implement in their practices.

A total of 68 primary care staff attended the education sessions over three events.
