Immunisation Skills Workshop

This dynamic, interactive workshop is designed for immunisation providers who want to strengthen both their vaccine communication skills and clinical expertise.

The workshop will feature expert presenters:

  • Professor Julie Leask, social scientist and Professor, Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney
  • Rachael McGuire, Education Nurse Coordinator, Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre
  • Sarah Duncanson, Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse at one of Australia’s largest children’s hospitals
  • Rachael Waye, Public Health Nurse – Immunisation, Townsville Public Health Unit
  • Sarah Goosen, A/Public Health Nurse, Townsville Public Health Unit

With expert instruction, group discussions, and participation in hands-on scenarios, by the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • recognise common drivers of vaccine hesitancy, including concerns about adverse events, immunisation errors, and external influences
  • demonstrate effective use of evidence-based communication strategies and learn how to respond to challenging questions
  • recall types of common and rare adverse events following immunisation
  • develop your practical skills by recognising and managing severe adverse
  • Queensland Immunisation Program
  • catch‑up immunisation for children and adults
  • cultural considerations in immunisation.
