Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transparency Statement
Why we use AI
NQPHN is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of people across northern Queensland. We explore the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance data-driven decision-making, improve service delivery, and support our workforce in delivering better health outcomes. AI is used to
complement – not replace – human expertise, and always in alignment with our values of safety, equity, and transparency.
How we use AI
NQPHN currently uses AI in the following ways:

- Analytics for insights: AI is used to analyse health data to identify trends, inform
planning, and support population health initiatives. - Workplace productivity: AI tools assist with summarising documents, drafting
communications, and automating routine tasks.

We do not use AI for automated decision-making that directly affects individuals, nor do we deploy AI
systems that the public interacts with without human oversight.

Our approach to AI
- All AI outputs are reviewed by qualified staff before being used in decision-making.
- AI is used in a supportive role, not to make final decisions.
- We ensure that AI use complies with all relevant legislation, including privacy, data protection, and ethical standards.
- We are developing internal policies and training to guide the safe and responsible use of AI.
Governance and accountability
- To ensure compliance with the Australian Government’s AI policy, the role of the AI
Accountable Official will be undertaken by the Executive Director, Data Information and Digital. - This content was created wholly or partly using generative AI tools (CoPilot, 15/08/2025).
- The AI Accountable Official will oversee and review the NQPHN AI strategy.
- We maintain internal governance processes to monitor AI effectiveness, manage risks, and
ensure transparency. - Staff using AI tools are required to complete training on ethical and appropriate use.
Commitment to safe and responsible AI
NQPHN is committed to:
- Using AI in a way that is transparent, fair, and aligned with community expectations.
- Adopting the Australia’s AI Ethics Principles, which consist of eight voluntary guidelines
designed to promote the safe, fair, and responsible development and use of AI technologies. - Regularly reviewing and updating this statement as our use of AI evolves.
- Engaging with national policy developments and best practices in AI governance.
