Job Description

WOW is a progressive, values-based not-for-profit organisation providing primary health care to the most disadvantaged, vulnerable members of the Cairns community. WOW services are provided by a special group of health professionals and volunteers who deliver free, person-centered medical and allied healthcare.

The WOW service model combines both a mobile outreach and fixed premises approach to deliver primary health care by GPs, Indigenous health workers, and nurses. The aim is to reach and make available to those disadvantaged by homelessness, poverty, domestic and family violence health care at a time when they need it most, in the place where it is needed.

The General Practitioner role requires primary healthcare assessments, diagnosis, and treatment plans within a recovery-oriented framework. The primary target groups for the service are homeless people, rough sleepers, including Indigenous Australians, people with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental illness, and people with little or no income.

The role is supported by a passionate and dedicated multidisciplinary team. Several four-hour sessions are available weekly in a fully bulk-billed service, with appointment times set to meet the complex needs of our clients.

Ideally, you will have five or more years’ experience, sound MBS knowledge, as well as experience in:

  • Indigenous health
  • chronic disease
  • mental health.

Due to the social circumstances and vulnerability of our clients, you will need to be an innovative problem solver, passionate clinician with an outside the box approach to delivering comprehensive healthcare.

Be part of a dynamic and passionate team dedicated to giving back to the community and providing the best care to those most vulnerable.
