This course will focus on educating nurses to support young people to make healthy choices regarding their sexual health. It will provide an overview of STIs and BBVs and their mode of transmission, as well as pathways available for young people to access services for their sexual healthcare needs.
Scholarships
This course has been funded by Queensland Health and is free to attend for nurses based in Queensland. There is some travel support is available for nurses from outside of Townsville. Please apply through by filling out this survey form by COB Friday, 23 January 2026.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this course and its components, participants will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of the range of normal development for young people and the social determinants of health
- describe common STIs and BBVs and their mode of transmission for all young people in Australia
- apply resources and strategies to enhance communication with young people to improve their sexual health and wellbeing
- analyse and consider innovative pathways for young people to access services for their sexual health care needs.

This course is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 7.5 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.
