Launch of Australia’s first standard of care for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care is releasing the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Clinical Care Standard. The Standard will be launched on Thursday 17 October 2024 at 12pm AEDT.

At the launch, a panel of health professionals will discuss the importance of accurate diagnosis with spirometry, pulmonary rehabilitation and a step-wise approach to pharmacotherapy.

We encourage clinicians involved in COPD care to attend the webcast.

Award-winning science reporter Dr Jonica Newby is hosting the expert panel discussion on what the Standard means for clinicians and healthcare services.

Panellists include:

  • Dr Lee Fong – Commission medical advisor
  • Professor Jennifer Alison – Professor of respiratory physiotherapy
  • Dr Kerry Hancock – General practitioner
  • Ms Mary Roberts – Respiratory clinical nurse consultant
  • Associate Professor Natasha Smallwood – Consultant respiratory physician.
