About Health Workforce Queensland 

Health Workforce Queensland is a not for profit, non-Government Rural Workforce Agency for primary health workforce in Queensland, focused on making sure remote, rural, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities have access to highly skilled health professionals when and where they need them, now and into the future.

About the role 

The Health Workforce Solutions Team create and deliver collaborative solutions to address identified health workforce needs in rural communities. Workforce solutions include recruitment of health professionals, provision of relocation incentives and assistance, orientation and ongoing case management, and support for families of rural health professionals. With a hands-on approach the Health Workforce Solutions Team has a positive relationship with rural health professionals and general practices. 

Reporting to the Health Workforce Solutions Team Leader, the Workforce Development Coordinator’s main focus is to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce skills for delivering culturally responsive primary healthcare in remote and rural communities in Northern Queensland.  The Workforce Development Coordinator’s responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  1. Collaborate closely internally and externally to design, develop, deliver and evaluate a culturally responsive Maternal and Child Health (MCH) and primary health care upskilling program for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce.
  2. Build effective networks with the primary health care and maternal and child health client-facing workforces in the North Queensland region and create culturally safe environments for discussing models of care and upskilling needs in relation to the First 1000 Days framework.
  3. Adopt a case management approach with eligible candidates to determine the supports that are needed for them to enrol in and complete their upskilling training, and to adapt flexibly for the duration of training.
  4. Communicate with culturally respectful dialogue (verbal and written) that engages the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health workforce from those in the early stages of their career through to experienced health professionals, and other key stakeholders.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the cultural determinants of health, the primary health system and the ACCHS sector. 

Position requirements

To be successful in this position, you will need the following knowledge and qualifications:

  1. Experience in engaging or supporting health professionals and implementing tailored solutions.
  2. Develops relationships with clients, candidates and stakeholders in a culturally responsive, empathetic and supportive manner:
    • applies relevant cultural and organisational protocols;
    • focuses on customer needs and satisfaction;
    • structures information to meet the needs and understanding of the intended audience.
  3. Works collaboratively with all team members and with other teams. Promotes evidence-based planning, focus on results, and evaluation of team activities.
  4. Applies information and systems capabilities to support business outcomes, including effective data management implemented to optimise needs analysis, evaluation, reporting and user experience.
  5. Adapts as required and displays clear resilience in a changing work environment; works productively with others when pressure increases for team to perform to reasonable expectations. (e.g. meet deadlines); learns from feedback and editing.
  6. Proficient in client engagement and using case management models for recruiting and retaining healthcare workforce (or similar) and presenting prioritised workforce solutions.
