About the role

The Practice Nurse role will be responsible for the day-to-day general practice duties, to help improve health outcomes for our patients.

Duties include

  • Chronic Disease Management.
  • Care Plans and Health Assessments.
  • Wound care.
  • Triage management.
  • Treatment room assistance, as required.
  • Patient education and support.
  • Stock maintenance and ordering.
  • Diagnostic procedures (e.g., ECG and Spirometry).

To be considered you must have the following:

  • EEN or RN with experience working as a Practice Nurse
  • current unrestricted nursing registration with AHPRA
  • completed the Australian Government COVID training modules
  • the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • a ‘can do’ attitude and be a proactive/forward thinker
  • a strong multitasking and organisational skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • computer literate
  • Current First Aid Certificate and CPR
  • immunisation endorsed and pap registered highly desirable, though not essential
  • ability to work effectively in a busy environment, as part of the team as well as autonomously
  • exceptional patient and customer service skills

You will work collaboratively with a team of highly experienced general practitioners (GPs), RNs, reception staff, and the practice manager, in a positive, friendly, and fun working environment in the heart of the Townsville CBD with easy access to public transport. 

The role's tasks include:

  • assisting with patient triage and undertaking preliminary diagnostic and first response care
  • clinical duties including assisting with procedures, immunisations, wound management, ECG's, and collection of pathology samples
  • chronic disease management, including the development of Care Plans, Health Assessments, and Comprehensive Medical Assessments
  • preventative health activities, including patient education and outreach 
  • maintenance of clinical equipment
  • stock maintenance and ordering.

You will need:

  • excellent communication skills and an ability to provide quality patient care to patients from a range of backgrounds and age demographics 
  • proven ability to be a positive, independent, and collegial member of the team
  • experience working within a busy general practice and/or hospital setting, and an interest in developing comprehensive knowledge of general practice nursing
  • ability to manage and prioritise workloads
  • current AHPRA registration.

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) is one of 31 regionalised and independent PHNs established nationally by the Commonwealth Department of Health to provide local communities with better access to improved primary healthcare services.

The role

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) is a member of the partnership established to develop the foundational Joint Regional Wellbeing Plan for Northern Queensland. Partnership members currently include the Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Hospital and Health Services (HHS) for the Torres and Cape, Cairns and Hinterland, Townsville, and Mackay regions. The partnership will be broadened in 2022 to include other key stakeholders from the sectors.

The Senior Service Planning and Design Officer – Joint Regional Wellbeing Plan (JRWP) will work under the direction of the Partnership Steering Committee to implement the completed foundational plan and coordinate and support the development of the comprehensive plan ensuring that the plan is:

  • developed in partnership with consumers and key stakeholders
  • aligned to the Fifth National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan
  • underpinned by evidence-based planning tools
  • centred around a stepped care and stage of life framework.

The comprehensive plan will outline the delivery of mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and suicide prevention activities across the NQPHN region, which includes the Torres and Cape, Cairns and Hinterland, Townsville, and Mackay HHS regions.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • tertiary qualifications in a health related or human services discipline and three years relevant work experience specifically in mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and suicide prevention
  • knowledge of contemporary population health concepts and demonstrated understanding of opportunities and challenges for the mental health, AOD, and suicide prevention sectors in the Northern Queensland region
  • knowledge and/or experience of networking and stakeholder engagement in mental health, AOD, or suicide prevention. 
  • demonstrated experience in managing multifaceted project activities within a community engagement context and planning framework
  • demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills and experience in writing major policy, planning, or similar high-level documents
  • demonstrated ability to work with diverse communities in the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders and Australian South Sea Islanders footprint
  • demonstrated experience in coordinating, developing, and contributing to a team environment.
