Job Description

Working in collaboration with an established medical team and reporting to the Senior Medical Officer, you will be responsible for supporting safe, quality, trauma informed primary healthcare services in the context of Aboriginal Community control, participation and ownership.

Generously supported by a capable team of Indigenous Health Workers and Nurses, you will provide comprehensive initial and continuing care across all age groups and levels of acuity. In the course of your work, you will commit to the quality of ‘health partnerships’ capable of building trust with patients, shared decision making and improved quality and continuity of care.

Assisted by a dedicated Medical Reception Team, you will be required to maintain accurate patient medical histories including upkeep of medical records and specialist referrals.

You will be an experienced Fellowed Medical Practitioner (FRACGP/ FACRRM), registered with the Medical Board of Australia. You will be skilled in comprehensive and culturally appropriate care and offer a good knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule and Medicare compliance.

A working knowledge of the overlap of health risk factors (risky alcohol consumption, high blood pressure, overweight and obesity status, inadequate diet, physical inactivity, and smoking) and the social determinants of health and wellbeing (including schooling and post-school qualification, employment, housing adequacy, and household income) are a requirement of the role.

To be successful, you will have an awareness of the influence of key factors on Indigenous health and wellbeing including cultural identity, family and kinship, country and caring for country, language, knowledge and beliefs, the participation in cultural activities, and access to traditional lands.

Exceptional organisational and time management skills are a requirement of the role, and a passion for delivering person-centred care to patients often presenting with complex care needs is essential.

 Your rewards

  • Competitive salary enhanced by comprehensive salary packing benefits designed to increase take-home pay and decrease personal income tax.

  • Generous leave arrangements revolving around an 18 working-day month and including 5 weeks' annual leave, study leave, birthday leave, as well as ‘special’ public holidays additional to gazetted public holidays.

  • Family-friendly hours limited to clinic opening times with no weekends.

  • Travel allowance to assist with your daily commute.

  • Cultural and organisational orientation.

  • Strong ACCHS leadership and professional development opportunities.

Please provide your resume and covering letter. Applications received after Friday 19 April 2024 may not be considered.
