Job Description
  • Be part of a team tasked with delivering a multi-strategy approach that delivers supportive environments and systems to better prevent or intervene in disease progression.
  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.

The role

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting effective community engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly with young women, adolescents, and girls. You will play a key part in ensuring that all preventive health policies and interventions are culturally appropriate and grounded in evidence, theory, and sound cultural judgement. This involves preparing and providing advice, as well as working with a range of stakeholders, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and communities, to support informed decision-making in preventive health.

You will also collaborate with key government and non-government stakeholders to develop and implement culturally appropriate health interventions in both rural and metropolitan settings. Additionally, you will contribute to the creation of public health policies that empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, adolescents, and girls to promote and protect their own health and wellbeing. Throughout your work, you will uphold Queensland Health's core values, adhere to service quality standards, and support the Department's representation at regional and state forums.

The successful person

To excel in this role, you will need experience in critically analysing data and providing evidence-based recommendations to colleagues, senior management, and stakeholders on preventive health matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls. This includes utilising data from various sources such as population health datasets, community consultations, and co-design processes. Additionally, you should have demonstrated strategic planning and project management skills, or be able to quickly develop these skills, in order to contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide health promotion programs for this target group.

You will also need effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a high-performing team, engaging through correspondence, briefings, committees, negotiations, and consultations. The role requires confident, culturally appropriate communication with community members, along with a high level of motivation and flexibility, including a willingness to collaborate on cross-program initiatives to address key issues as directed by management.

  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Diverse work culture.
