CRANAplus Triage Emergency Care Course

Posted Tuesday 26 November 2024 | CRANAplus

Designed specifically for nurses (including practice nurses) and general practitioners but open to a variety of health care professionals, the Triage Emergency Care Course is based on the Emergency Triage Education Kit (ETEK), with a focus on its application for rural, remote, and isolated settings. The course upskills the rural triage practitioner to confidently assess patients and apply the Australasian Triage Scale to allocate an appropriate triage category.

The CRANAplus Triage Emergency Care consists of three components:

  • online pre-course learning, case scenarios and quizzes
  • online discussion boards and activities
  • attendance at a one day face-to-face workshop consisting of lectures, small group work and practical based triage scenarios.

On successful completion of the course, clinicians will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the principles of triage assessment techniques using a primary survey approach.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Australasian Triage Scale and its implementation in the workplace.
  • Develop an understanding of the medico-legal aspects of triage across adult, paediatric, maternity, the elderly and mental health presentations.
  • Develop an understanding of the unique differences between urban and rural triage practices.
