Neurodiversity and substance use: what clinicians need to know

Posted Sunday 24 November 2024 | The Matilda Centre, University of Sydney

This webinar will be presented by Dr. Eddie Mullen (Psychiatrist, Orygen Specialist Services). Dr. Eddie Mullen is a youth psychiatrist and has been at Orygen Specialist Program in Melbourne, Victoria for over 11 years. He is the Director of Medical Workforce and Co-Lead of the Orygen Youth Addiction and Dual Diagnosis Stream and Substance Use Research Group. Dr. Mullen has a strong interest in understanding developmental perspectives of substance use from early adolescence into adulthood and how this can inform our approach to screening, assessment, and offering evidence-based treatment as well as the intersection of youth, neurodivergence, and addiction.

By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • consider substance use and addictive behaviours with a developmental perspective
  • consider the impact of substance use in neurodiversity
  • reflect on opportunities and challenges for clinicians and services to provide care across different treatment settings.
