Posted Saturday 10 May 2025 | RACGP Queensland

Point-of-care ultrasound is becoming an increasingly valuable diagnostic tool in rural general practice, especially in areas with limited access to specialist services.

This full-day workshop is designed to enhance your understanding of point-of-care ultrasound applications in the diagnostic process. Led by experts in the field, the workshop will explore the diverse uses of point-of-care ultrasound in rural primary care settings. You will be introduced to basic techniques using advanced, high-quality mobile ultrasound equipment provided by our sponsor, GE HealthCare.

You will rotate through six ultrasound skill stations:

  1. Extended Focused Assessment with Sonography with Trauma (eFAST)
  2. Deep venous thrombosis
  3. Heart and lung ultrasound
  4. Intravenous line placement and foreign object retrieval
  5. Musculoskeletal soft tissue
  6. First trimester transabdominal obstetric ultrasound.

The workshop is a CPD Approved Activity within the 2025 Triennium. Participants will be eligible for a total of 10 hours includes 5 hours Educational Activity and 5 hours of Reviewing Performance. It is also approved for all categories of the Rural Procedural Grants Program.
