Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) today publicly announced the winners of its annual Indigenous Youth Art Awards.

Closing the Gap (CTG), previously only available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australians living with, or at risk of, chronic disease, is now available to all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australians, regardless of where they live or their chronic disease status. Additionally, more health care providers can now register patients for the CTG Program.

Queensland Health and the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) are placing First Nations peoples and voices at the centre of healthcare service design and delivery through Making Tracks Together - Queensland’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Equity Framework.

There has been a decline (61 per cent) in deaths from circulatory diseases between 1998 and 2018 for First Nations Peoples. However, heart disease is still a major contributor to the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
