Residents in Mareeba and Atherton can now consult with a doctor after-hours using their phone or a secure video link on their computer with the launch of Telehealth Doctor NQ in the region.

Telehealth Doctor NQ, powered by House Call Doctor and supported by funding from Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN), has registered doctors treating patients for a range of conditions as well as providing prescriptions and medical certificates.

The free service is available to residents seven days a week in the after-hours period from 6pm-8am on weeknights, and on weekends from 12 noon Saturday until 8am Monday morning.

Residents can book an appointment with Telehealth Doctor NQ by calling 1300 255 562 or online at www.telehealthdoctornq.com.au

Telehealth Doctor NQ Chief Executive Officer Wayne Ormond said telehealth was improving access to primary healthcare across the region.

“Telehealth Doctor NQ will provide a great new service for residents in the Mareeba and Atherton region in the after-hours period in the comfort of their own home,” Mr Ormond said.

“Patients can connect with a doctor for a consultation, receive medical advice, or have prescriptions and medical certificates sent to their phone or tablet.

“Telehealth Doctor NQ will also update the patient’s regular GP with details of the consultation.

“Our doctors want to ensure all patients have access to quality healthcare, whenever they need it, and now they do.”

NQPHN Chief Executive Officer John Gregg welcomed Telehealth Doctor NQ as a sustainable after hours telehealth provider for the region.

“The rapid response from Telehealth Doctor NQ to meet the needs of the Mareeba and Atherton communities for continuity of care means there will not be a service gap for after-hours medical services,” Mr Gregg said.

“They have proven experience providing quality and clinically safe healthcare services to Queenslanders in the after-hours period.

“In non-urgent and non-life threatening cases, an after-hours telehealth service such as Telehealth Doctor NQ will be a timely and appropriate option for individuals and their families, easing the pressure on emergency departments so they can concentrate on caring for people with more serious conditions.

“NQPHN is looking forward to working with House Call Doctor to provide the right care, at the right time for Mareeba and Atherton residents through Telehealth Doctor NQ.”

People are also encouraged to seek non-urgent medical support during business hours with their GP or pharmacy – if possible – rather than waiting until after work or school, at night-time, or on weekends.

Residents should call Triple Zero (000) or visit the emergency department in a medical emergency.

Telehealth Doctor NQ services will be available to residents of Mareeba and Atherton from 6pm Friday 21 June 2019.
