Job Description

Support community healthcare in Townsville! Backed by State and Federal governments, the Townsville Medicare Urgent Care Clinics (UCC) aims to reduce pressure on the hospital system and make it easier for Townsville residents to see a doctor or nurse when they require urgent but not life-threatening care.

Medicare UCCs are GP-led services providing more options for people seeking access to urgent medical care. The Townsville Medicare UCC is open 7 days a week from 11am to 9pm.

The Townsville UCC is accepting expressions of interest from VR GPs who live in the area or those who can commute to Townsville. GPs can continue to meet all existing commitments with their current clinic and pick up additional shifts at the UCC. We want to hear from applicants who thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, preferably with an interest or experience in assessing and treating patients who would normally be triaged in a hospital setting under Category 4 and 5.

Attractive hourly rates are on offer.

  • Flexible options – work around existing commitments
  • Nursing support
  • Reserved on-site doctor’s parking

GPs expressing interest will be expected to fulfill their existing work commitments with their current clinic.

We welcome the chance to speak with you about this opportunity.

headspace Townsville, under the leadership of their lead agency Stride, deliver high quality evidence-based clinical care to achieve better health outcomes for young people aged 12-25 years.

Our multidisciplinary team supports young people in the Townsville region by providing support for mental health, physical health, alcohol and other drug use, and getting into work and study.

headspace Townsville offers a number of evidence based mental health and wellbeing treatments that range from low intensity brief interventions through to high intensity long-term interventions. These include:

  • ‘One-at-a-time supports’ when young people may only be needing a few sessions with a clinician to work on current stressors or concerns.
  • Moderate intensity medium-term individual and group therapy when young people may need a few more sessions to work on specific concerns such as anxiety, depression, or other mental health difficulties.
  • A dedicated suicide prevention program (You Are Not Alone – YANA) that provides time-limited high intensity interventions for young people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
  • A dedicated trauma program (‘Tern’ program) that provides recovery focused long-term high intensity interventions for young people who have experienced multiple traumas throughout their lives.
