Board Director Vacancy

Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN) is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified applicants to fill six upcoming vacancies on the NQPHN Board. NQPHN is a public company limited by guarantee incorporated under the Corporations Act. It is one of 31 Primary Health Networks (PHNs) funded by the Australian Government.

NQPHN is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, funded to commission services to meet the health needs and priorities of our region (from Sarina in the south to the Torres Strait in the north). Applications will be considered and reviewed by the NQPHN Nomination and Remuneration Committee (Committee), shortlisted applicants will be interviewed, and the recommended applicants will be considered for appointment at a General Meeting of NQPHN Members in November 2022.

NQPHN is seeking EOI applications from individuals with the qualifications, knowledge, experience, and attributes that will contribute to the organisation achieving its vision of Northern Queenslanders living happier, healthier, longer lives.

The Committee applies a skills matrix to assist with the process of assessing EOI applications to complement continuing directors, prior to making recommendations to members of NQPHN.

In accordance with the NQPHN constitution:

  • two positions will be filled by community general practitioners
  • one position will be filled by a community pharmacist
  • three positions will be filled by people residing within the NQPHN footprint.

As part of the skills matrix process, preference will be provided to applicants who can demonstrate skills, experience, or capability in the following key criteria.

  • Strong knowledge, expertise and networks in one or more of the following areas:
    • corporate and system (digital) governance
    • strategy and monitoring/accountability
    • commissioning
    • stakeholder engagement
    • strategic communications
    • clinical governance
    • executive management
    • risk governance
    • financial expertise.
  • Demonstrable skills that complement those of continuing directors in delivering on the NQPHN Strategic Plan.
  • To align with our Strategic Plan and commissioning priorities practitioners with expertise and interest in governance, First Nations people’s health, mental health, or population health would be viewed favourably.
  • Applicants residing within the areas of Mackay/Sarina, Townsville, and rural and remote North Queensland communities are sought, to broaden the current Board membership.

Your EOI application for this position should include:

  • A written application of no more than two pages addressing why you would like to serve on the NQPHN board, how you think your skills, attributes, and/or experience will complement the continuing directors and enhance our ability to deliver on our strategic plan and the key and desirable criteria. This written application should also describe your current commitments, and any perceived or actual conflicts of interest that relate to NQPHN.
  • A current copy of your curriculum vitae or LinkedIn profile.
  • Two referees.
