Mental Health Training for General Practitioners (GPs)
Focussed psychological strategies are specific mental healthcare management strategies, derived from evidence based psychological therapies that have been shown to integrate the best research evidence of clinical effectiveness with general practice clinical expertise.
Facilitated by a GP (Dr Danielle James) and a Clinical Psychologist (May Chi) the workshops are primarily activity based and feature demonstration of techniques, videos, supervised practice of skills, a consumer and carer panel discussion, and case-based discussions.
This training has been designed in alignment with RACGP guidelines to ensure that GPs meet all the learning outcomes to achieve FPS Level Two accreditation. Content has been reviewed by people with lived mental health experience. This training is suitable for GPs that already have experience in the mental health setting.
Completion of the training package will allow GPs to claim MBS item numbers 2721, 2723, 2725, and 2727 for provision of FPS.
